About the Club

Ashton-under-Lyne Swimming Club is a competitive Swimming Club. We are a member of the Amateur Swimming Association and regularly compete against other teams in various competitions.

The Club was established over 100 years ago and is highly respected throughout swimming circles. We can boast Area, National and International Champions amongst our past and current members.

Aims of Club

It is our aim to take children of all ages and abilities and teach them the skills required to eventually represent the Club competitively and hopefully go on to compete at a higher level. In order to reach this goal, we have a highly knowledgeable and dedicated poolside staff, who offer their services and time voluntarily, as do all our committee members. We are a competitive Club and swimmers who progress through the system are expected to compete and represent the Club if selected.

TEAM MANAGERS REPORT
APRIL 2007

TUESDAY 17th
INTER GALA away
1st Ashton 184pts
2nd Crompton 134pts

A comfortable win for the team in our first Inter Gala of the season. The result was never in doubt as we picked up victories in nearly 2/3rds of the events.
It was the boy’s team who were most successful and we had a winner in every one of the boy’s races on the night, with many 1st and 2nd places also.
Dillon Alderson was the leading winner on the night, winning all 7 of his races and clocking 4 personal best times too. There were also some fine swims from Stephen McCue (who won 6 out of 6) and Lucy Johnson (competing over 2 lengths for the first time for the club)
However, the swimmer of the match was Daniel Briggs, who showed real determination and fight to record 3 personal best times from his 3 races on the night.

FRIDAY 27th
JUNIOR GALA away
1st Ashton  60pts
2nd Chadderton 47pts

This was our second Junior Gala of the year and our second gala in a row at a 25yard pool. The pool conditions were poor and for some of our younger swimmers it was clear that the choppy conditions and bar / slippy surface etc did have an effect.
After a suspect start to the night, where we managed to win the first two races (although we did our best to lose them), the night did improve.
Once again the boys lead the way and we did not lose a single all boys race all night. There were comfortable wins for some, but the 10/us did have some tough races and some strong swims from Robert Gourley and Sam Bennett ensured we picked up 3 wins out of 3.
The girls had a much tougher night, picking up only 4 wins from 12, but still there were some encouraging performances from many.
It was an easy win in the end as we took a lead into the mixed races, where we only lost 3 of the 12. In the end to score 60pts was a good result and it could prove very important at the end of the season when total points are added.
Leading winner on the night was Joseph McCue, who is having an excellent season, whilst Amy Shaw clocked the most p.bs with 4.
Special mention, for Kavita Chauhan swimming in her first proper gala for the club. She swam in two races and whilst nervous to begin with, she really enjoyed the night and did not put a foot wrong in either race.
Swimmer of the match though was Andrew Galley. Andrew secured two victories taking the anchor leg and was clearly the fastest swimmer in the pool on the night.

Thank you Ashton District Assembly

At our Presentation Evening Councillor Bill Harrison, Chairman of  Ashton District Assembly , presented the Club with a cheque for £500. Newly elected Chairman Steve Shilley had worked closely with the District Assembly to secure the bid. The funds have been awarded to enable the club to join a new swimming league in which our swimmers aged over 16 can compete and so maintain their involvement with the club.
